The images were taken recently but they evoke the common features of America´s past: a lonely gas station next to a deserted country road, an isolated silhouette by a motel pool, empty chairs in a Brooklyn café ...

There´s solitude and introspection in De Bruyne´s work which has been likened to Edward Hopper´s paintings.

With their saturated colours and blurred contours, these wide cinematographic compositions recall old kodachrome film stills and successfully capture the vastness and starkness of the United States.
